Excellence Should Be Your New Year’s Resolution!

If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude. – Colin Powell

Here we are in the third week of 2015 and by now I would guess that most of the resolutions that you made have been broken. It is amazing how passionate people can be about change and within a few weeks most if not all of the changes that they’ve declared have been forgotten. As a Life Coach/Human Performance Specialist I see and hear about the change that people want to make on a daily basis. And I am certain that they are sincere about the desired changes to improve their lives.

For just a moment I’d like to examine the word resolution. Resolution can be defined as: the mental state or quality of determining upon a course of action; firmness of purpose. What firm purpose have you resolved to? For without firmness of purpose it is for certain that you will just float through the ocean of life accepting whatever life gives you. To truly take control of your life you must be committed and disciplined to not only an idea but an action. To live the life you so desire you must resolve to do something that you have probably never done before.

The first thing I make people understand and  realize is that “the way you do something, is the way you do all things”. I hear it all; I want to stop smoking, lose weight, or be a better person. What people don’t realize is that all of these issues will be taken care of with one resolution, and that is the pursuit of excellence. What is excellence? Excellence is the state or quality of excelling; superiority. Particularly in the field of business and organizations, excellence is considered to be an important value

To successfully achieve the goals and dreams you desire for your life, you must truly commit to making your focus the pursuit of excellence in your life as a whole. You must begin where you are right now whether its to be the best on your job, in your marriage, to be the best parent. You must be totally dedicated to making this goal your daily focus. To discipline yourself to a new way of thinking and behaving is not always an easy task, however, you must decide that your life is worth the effort. Once you are firmly in the habit of pursuing excellence then the desired results for the rest of your resolutions will follow.
